You’ve probably heard the famous quote: “write drunk, edit sober.” While Ernest Hemingway probably didn’t say those words that have been attributed to him, it hasn’t stopped people from using it as a technique to improve their writing. According to them, alcohol allows you to get outside yourself and become more creative.

So is there any proof that it’s actually effective? I often write at night with a glass of wine, and not only is it enjoyable, I think I’m able to write better.

Don’t take my word for it though. The Expert Editor decided to look at the science behind writing drunk and editing sober and without giving too much away, let’s just say that whoever said these famous words may have been on to something.
