Rick Lowe’s Project Row Houses began as 22 abandoned shotgun-style houses in Houston’s Third Ward, one of the city’s oldest African-American communities.

Albuquerque’s 516 ARTS is hosting a book release party and print sale featuring the books and prints of David Scheinbaum and Janet Russuk. Friday, Nov. 1.

The result is a laboratory of fantastical inventions. Their project explores metaphorical borders between the scientific and the artistic, the ideological and discursive, the practical and impractical.

Award-winning Navajo poets Luci Tapahonso and Sherwin Bitsui will read their work at 516 ARTS on Thursday, Aug 29 at 7pm.

The ability for the artists to make statements like this and show them to the public is really empowering for the Native nation.

They’re working with the Native American tradition of giveaways where they give these prints away.

Upcoming events will further explore the themes of surface and texture highlighted in the Flatlanders exhibition. All are free unless otherwise noted.

The 24-artist group show Flatlanders & Surface Dwellers explores the essence of surface and, invariably, what lies beneath.
